Brenda had carpal tunnel surgery on her left hand ten years ago. So, when her right hand began to go numb at night, she instantly recognized the symptoms.
“When I woke up, it would take 30 minutes or so until I could get feeling back into my hand,” Brenda explains. The numbness also occurred during the day, particularly when working at her computer or doing crafts at home.
At first, the numbness was sporadic, so Brenda didn’t act on it, recalling the long recovery from her previous surgery. “I had to be put to sleep. I had stitches, and it took some time to recover,” she says.

Choosing the Best Option
However, when Brenda learned about the advancements in carpal tunnel release procedures over the past decade, she became intrigued. She discovered the option of carpal tunnel release with ultrasound guidance — using Sonex Health’s UltraGuideCTR™ — while visiting Winchester Radiologists for another procedure. “I heard the staff discussing this new technique that didn’t require general anesthesia and had a quick recovery time. I was curious, but didn’t think my symptoms were severe enough yet,” Brenda remembers.
As her symptoms worsened, Brenda decided to consult Dr. Kiarash Jahed at Winchester Radiologists about the ultrasound-guided technique.
“He explained that there would be no stitches and that the recovery time would be much shorter compared to traditional surgery,” she says. “I immediately thought this would be a great option for me.”
Treatment, Simplified
On the day of the procedure, Brenda only felt a slight sting from the local anesthetic injection. During the procedure itself, she experienced just a bit of pressure from the UltraGuideCTR device.
Afterward, Brenda had some mild swelling, but it was short-lived, and the numbness quickly disappeared. Four months later, she’s thrilled with the results.
“Having experienced carpal tunnel release both ways, I would definitely recommend the ultrasound-guided procedure,” Brenda says. “Overall, the process was so much simpler. It’s been great.”
